Here is some tips on how I find it best to raise and train your Poke'Mon
1. Keep them healthy. This means keeping a good supply of Potions, or Full Restores (later in the game), revives or Max Revives, and status healing products
2. The herb shop is your friend, they provide the best health items for your Poke'mon Energy Powder and Root are particularly useful so get A LOT of them, Also get the Revival Herb they are expensive but you can buy a A LOT them where you have to find Max Revive. Remedy powder (I think that is what it is called) is a must also
3. Keep your team level even. Once you start the game your starter is going to be the bench mark of where your team should be in level. If by the time you get pokeballs and your starter is at nine, put him in the back of the team and bring the rest of your team up to level 9. This may take awhile but it is works out the best in the long run.
4. Manage the moves the your Poke'Mon uses, and DO NOT put every HM on one poke'mon, HM moves can not be removed in the normal fashion so Making your Charmander have Cut,Flash, Etc is useless cause then he can't learn the more powerful moves of his type.
5. Weakest Poke'mon out front, and switch them out in the beginning of battle with a stronger pokemon. This way your weakest team member doesn't get hurt and gains EXP at the same time. The only downside is, it makes it tougher to raise your Poke'mon because of the split EXP from battle between the two Poke'Mon
(Warning, Unless you have a shit load of Rare Candy, raising Poke'Mon this way is going to be tough especially with a Poke'Mon like Magikarp because it doesn't learn an offensive move until level 16 which makes Magikarp one of the toughest poke'mon to raise but it brings the best rewards upon evolution)
6. I know everyone has their favorite types of Poke'Mon but you should really keep your team varied to handle any situation.
Follow these tips and you will have a successful trip through any Region :)
